  • The Bear Necessities

Whether Peter Greenaway’s violent unknown event had any bearing on what we in the skate world now know as ‘The Creative Hiatus‘ – or The C.H. – is difficult to say. What we do know is that up until The C.H. occurred I masqueraded as a pro skateboarder representing skate footwear brand éS (generally believed to be pronounced “ess” as in chess or less or mess (more…)

  • Let The Wild Ruckus Begin!

After stretching synthetic silk across a plain wood frame, securing it in grooves with slender rope and coating it with a light-sensitive emulsion the WuBird image was burned into the screen using a torrent of photons radiating from the bulb of (more…)

  • A Proper Riverdance

The current (October ’12) issue of Thrasher has David Gonzales on the cover grinding a very burly kink to drop in San Diego. There is a pentagram, David’s interview is jammed with mind-blowing skateboard trickery, there’s a hammer-filled Toy Machine article with a strong latex fist theme, episode 2 of The Predatory Bird comic contains profane language and avian poop, the Krooked in Kolorado article includes an explicit description of an absurd genital brawl and most relevant to today’s post, the sequence you can see below.

A week or so after this issue hit the newsstands I received (more…)

  • New Wheels in a New Town

wheelWe are very stoked to announce that these incredible wheels are now exclusive in 2 of the best skate shops on the planet. Focus and Boarderline, both located atop the rugged paving of Scotland. If you’re in the area stop by, say hi, grab a tee or a set of wheels and glide over pavement Predatory Bird style. Embrace your inner gull.

Talking of inner gulls I just watched The Brave Onions. It’s a short skate vid straight out of Aberdeen. From the danger filled intro to the inspired editing (more…)

  • This is NOT the new Anti-Hero Video

This is NOT the new Anti-Hero video! This is a Friends-of-The-Predatory-Bird video called HITAROCK. Although HITAROCK stars Div and Tom, who both rep Anti-Hero, they are also deeply connected to the inner workings of The Predatory Bird.
The title of this post is inspired by This is Not the New H-Street Video and HITAROCK is inspired by the following romantic factors and notions:-

    • Hitting rocks
    • Ginger Beards
    • WSVT
    • Bombing Hills
    • Zingers
    • Mike Frazier’s part  in Celebrity Tropical Fish.
    • Zaggers
    • The psychic space travel of legendary Detroit techno producers Underground Resistance.
    • Riser pads
    • The idea that the rocks we hit in life are unavoidable. They are our destiny and after every humiliation we must pick ourselves up and get back to the business of living and helping each other to laugh it all off.
    • Evil Dead 2
    • Many ghosts of skating past.
    • Understanding that much of the appeal of techno music lies in the troubling idea that it echoes all the disfiguring industrial horror we have wrought on the planet.
    • Enjoying life despite all the industrial horror.
    • Lance Mountain in general
  • Morphine’s a Hell of a Drug.

Returned a couple of days early from the 2012 Zero Canada tour. Snapped the left forearm just above the wrist while trying to stick the trusty, old, kickflip fakie on a concrete potato chip at the Winnipeg demo. It teaches me a stern lesson not to skate when in a bad mood. Company owner James took some photographs that do a great job of illustrating the title of this post and Joe Brook is busy shooting the tour for an upcoming issue of Thrasher Magazine. Be on the look out!

  • There is Another…Predatory…Bird!

Rumour has it that there is another person, who also grew up in the North East of Scotland, who is soon to release a CD containing strange songs and stories. The weird coincidence is that this artist also happens to go by the name Predatory Bird. Now, we are certainly aware that coincidences are rife in this universe but given that this alter-predatory bird is not in any way, shape or form affiliated with this predatory bird, that released the lifestyle promo or sells wonderful tees wheels decks and completes over here, this is all a little intriguing. The communication we received claims that one of the stories is inspired by the following youtube video. (more…)

  • Investigating Skateboarding 3: Andy

I just got back from the Zero Bacon and Legs tour which began curiously, progressed to curiouser and ended downright bizarre. More on that at some future point. In the meantime I’m all about these amazing boards that Folk Custom Skateboards made for The Predatory Bird. The complete item with the custom Thunder Trucks and Predatory Bird Wheels is a thing of beauty. It is available along with the Bird-in-Hand tee-shirt over at the shop. In the following video we meet Andy, my father in law, as he describes his fantastic experiences skating in LA in the 60s and gives us a wonderful Predatory-Bird-board sales pitch.
